Background
Norma Goodger was one of the founding members and the President of the Kushog Lake Property Owners Association (KLPOA) for 32 years. She was an incredibly dedicated lake steward who worked tirelessly to initiate and support scientific research on the lake and to raise property owners and the general public's understanding of and active participation in the stewardship of the Kushog Lake ecosystem.
The KLPOA has worked in partnership with the Fleming College Ecosystem Management program participants since 2013. Each Fall Norma would mentor a team of students in the Credit for Product course as they collected and analyzed water, benthic, and plankton samples from the lake. The student team would add the data from their year of sampling and research to the previous years' data and look at the emerging trends in lake health.
Norma was an incredible mentor to more than 40 students in the Ecosystem Management program. She was an excellent communicator, had high standards for herself and the students she worked with, and was a generous host providing wonderful food, accommodations, and most importantly camaraderie. Her passion for stewarding Kushog Lake was inspiring.
