Build Your Pottery and Ceramics Skills at the Haliburton School of Art + Design

Haliburton, ON – (Jan. 24, 2023) – TheHaliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) is opening its ceramics studio to local artists.

A new open studio program allows artists full access to HSAD’s ceramics studio for a weekly fee of $125.

Each artist will have full access to their own designated wheel, worktable, storage space and ware cart. The cost also covers the full use of studio equipment (including a mill, slab roller, banding wheel, slump molds, stamps, extruder, batts, armatures, slip trailers, spray booth, sculpting stand and use of the kiln room).

Studio time can be purchased by the week.

The studio is open Monday through Saturday. All clay must be purchased from the College Bookstore for $25 per bag. The cost includes underglazes, glazes, and firing.

The program runs from January 30 to April 29. It is not suitable for beginners; Previous experience is required.

Get a Sneak Peek at HSAD’s New Course Calendar!

Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art + Design is offering a sneak peek of our 2023 slate of courses!

This year, we’re pleased to announce some new offerings-12 new workshops, 25 new instructors, 43 new courses and approximately 225 course offerings.

Courses encompass everything from Indigenous beading to clay handbuilding, rug hooking, photography, sculpture, writing, fibre arts, painting and much more. We’ve even added a new selection of kids, youth, and teen workshops.

Get a head start on planning your 2023 creative art escape with friends and family, or challenge yourself as you learn a new artistic skill. The full calendar will be posted online on February 15. Registration for all programs opens March 1.

Wrap it Up! At the Haliburton School of Art + Design

Haliburton, ON – (Dec. 15, 2022) – Students at Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) have been busy preparing for their annual end-of-semester art show, Wrap it Up!  

The one-day show takes place Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in HSAD’s Great Hall.  

Wrap it Up! is hosted by students in full-time certificate programs at HSAD and provides an opportunity for these emerging artists to gain exhibition experience and showcase their many talents.  

The exhibit features a variety of media including painting, drawing, artist blacksmithing, ceramics, fibre arts and photography. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work and answer questions.  

Select works will be available for purchase.  

Wrap it Up! is open to everyone and is free to attend. While guided tours will not be taking place during the exhibit, guests are welcome to come and walk around the beautiful HSAD campus. The Sculpture Forest is also open!

Faculty Art Auction Returns to the Haliburton School of Art + Design

Haliburton ON – (July 19, 2022) – Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art + Design is pleased to invite you to take part in the Haliburton School of Art + Design Faculty Art Auction in support of art student bursaries.   

After having to cancel the signature fundraising event for the past two consecutive summers due to COVID-19, the annual Auction is back in an online format for the first time ever. On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, the auction will launch here with a small selection of art and crafts, created and generously donated by faculty who teach in Fleming’s Haliburton summer school and full-time programs.   

Items will be added weekly as they become available. The auction closes Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. Works have been donated by many artists, including Helen McCusker, Rose Pearson, Rob Stimpson, Susan Watson-Ellis, and Todd Jeffrey Ellis.  

The College will also host an in-person gathering at the Haliburton Campus on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 5 – 7 p.m. which will include a cocktail reception, special silent auction, and art exhibition led by the instructors and creators at the Haliburton School of Art + Design. This evening is an opportunity for college staff and students to re-connect with the Haliburton community. Winning bidders from the online auction can pick up items in-person at this event or arrange for pick up/shipping on another date by contacting Scott Walling at scott.walling@flemingcollege.ca or 1-866-353-6464 x 6721.  

Net proceeds from this event support Haliburton art student bursaries and innovative initiatives at the Haliburton Campus. Donations in support of this project can be made during the auction or online, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued for the full donation amount.

Fleming’s Haliburton School Of Art And Design Gets Ready To Celebrate Convocation

Peterborough ON – (May 30, 2022) – Students enrolled in Fleming’s Haliburton School of Art + Design (HSAD) will celebrate Convocation June 3 during the College’s first in-person ceremony in two years.

Eighty-one students enrolled in programs housed at the Haliburton Campus are set to receive their diplomas at 2 p.m.

Among those graduating June 3 are the first HSAD students who have pursued their Indigenous Perspectives Designation (IPD). Those students will receive a letter acknowledging this accomplishment in their graduation package. IPD students have chosen to incorporate more in-depth knowledge of First Nation, Inuit and Métis peoples, cultures, histories, traditions, and contributions through the course of their Fleming College studies.

Convocation is one of the most important events at the College, and a pivotal moment in a student’s academic career. Fleming College is proud of all our graduating students and their accomplishments.
