Record growth at Fleming College continues with strong January enrolment
Fleming College is continuing to grow with a three per cent increase in new students starting their first semester at Fleming College this January.
January enrolment has jumped to 942 first-semester students this year from 915 in 2010 and 854 in January 2009.
Fleming’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, based at the Frost Campus in Lindsay, and the School of Law, Justice and Community Services experienced the largest growth in new students.
“We are pleased to see more students in the hallways of Fleming College this winter,” said Fleming College President Tony Tilly. “It illustrates that the college is offering the right combination of programming and services to attract students to our institution.”
Since fall 2007, total full-time fall semester enrolment at Fleming College has increased by more than 1,000 students or 20 per cent. Total fall enrolment in 2010 increased five per cent over 2009.
Renovations have recently been completed to update the college and help accommodate student growth. To better serve the expanding number of students entering Fleming’s skilled trades programs, the college is proposing the construction of the Kawartha Skilled Trades Institute (KSTI) at the Sutherland Campus. The KSTI would replace the out-dated skilled trades training facility on Bonaccord Street. It would create up to 650 construction jobs and increase capacity for 500 more student spaces.
Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business and Technology, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Visual Arts, Education, Health and Wellness, and Law, Justice and Community Services. Fleming College has more than 6,000 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, and 58,000 alumni.
