Fleming College

Peterborough ON – (June 16, 2020) – Fleming College’s Pharmacy Technician program was awarded the status of accreditation by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).

The term of the accreditation is five years, from January 2020 to December 2024, and is the highest accreditation awarded. The accreditation was awarded under new CCAPP standards set in place July 2019. Graduates of accredited programs by CCAPP are well-prepared for a career in health care.

Application for national accreditation requires significant time and resources. Securing accreditation means that graduates are eligible to pursue licensing through the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Without this accreditation, graduates would not be eligible to purse this licensing.

“Our programs are focused on the needs of the labour market, and we work diligently to ensure we are responsive and provide the essential skills and training that graduates need for the workforce,” said Maureen Adamson, President, Fleming College. “This accreditation for our Pharmacy Technician program demonstrates our commitment to current trends and will produce graduates with the talent employers are looking for.”

The Pharmacy Technician program is a four-semester diploma program offered at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus. The program offers a placement in hospitals, community and long-term care settings. The program also offers an Indigenous Perspectives Designation (IPD), where Indigenous events and experiences are incorporated into the learning.
