Fleming College will offer a new two-semester Welding Techniques program beginning n September 2008. The booming trades and construction industry is experiencing a skills shortage and qualified workers are in demand. This program will provide graduates with the skills needed to obtain well-paying jobs in the welding trade. Students will learn various welding processes and will gain extensive hands-on experience on the four most demanding welding processes used in industry:• SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) • GMAW (gas metal arc welding) • FCAW (flux core arc welding) • GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) Basic blueprint reading, trade math, weld symbols, metallurgy, oxy-fuel and plasma cutting will also be introduced. With the high demand for skilled welders, options are diverse and employment prospects are strong. The welding trade requires an incredible variety of welding skills, spanning from fine precision welding of light exotic metals used in electronics, tooling, nuclear and aerospace, to manufacturing and custom consumer products, to heavy structural materials used in construction, building and bridge erection, pipelines and even ship and underwater welding. For more information please see the Welding Techniques Program Page
