Fleming College’s Board of Governors yesterday approved three new programs – Aircraft Interior Techniques, Carpentry Technician and Integrated Design.

Aircraft Interior Techniques, a one-year certificate program, will be mostly delivered on-site at Flying Colours Corporation at the Peterborough Airport. It builds on a previously-offered program, which trained students to refurbish aircraft interiors. This new program is expected to start in January 2014. It will provide a foundation for other aviation programs, including Avionics and Welding, and positions the college for possible accreditation as a facility for aviation programming.

Carpentry Technician, a four-semester diploma program, emphasizes applied carpentry and project management skills. With a September 2014 start, it will coincide with the opening of the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre at the Sutherland Campus. The curriculum includes sustainable practices, and graduates will be ready for entry into the construction sector.

Integrated Design is a three-semester compressed diploma program that will be offered at the Haliburton Campus starting in September 2014. Students will be introduced to, and exposed to, all aspects of design including fashion/textiles, communication/graphic, exhibition/environmental graphic, interiors, landscape, and architecture. The college will develop articulation agreements with other institutions so that graduates can continue post-secondary design studies within their chosen field.

Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 100 full-time programs in Community Development and Health, Continuing Education, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Justice and Business, Skilled Trades and Technology, General Arts and Science and Visual Arts. Fleming College has more than 5,900 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, and more than 65,000 alumni.
