Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre Campaign raises $1.35M
Co-Chairs Jay Amer and Craig McFarlane, with the help of their campaign cabinet, announced today the “Building Skills, Shaping Futures” campaign has secured cash, pledge and in-kind donations totalling $1.35M dollars, and is now shifting the focus to raise funds for student financial assistance.
“Last fall, Fleming College’s Financial Aid Office received almost 3,000 applications for student financial assistance. Where approximately 430 awards and bursaries are available, it is not nearly enough to support all students that apply in order to be successful in their studies,” said Amer.
McFarlane added, “That is why we are refocusing our efforts on raising funds for student financial assistance for the School of Trades and Technology. Our goal is to raise $250,000 for bursaries and awards. Over the next few months we are encouraging the community through radio, television and print ads – generously donated by our local media – to support student success at Fleming College.”
On hand to make a special presentation was Brian O’Toole, Community Manager for Scotiabank. O’Toole presented a cheque for $10,000 to support the student financial assistance campaign.
Maxine Mann, Acting Dean for the School of Trades and Technology, thanked Scotiabank for its support.
“I see students daily who struggle to make ends meet while they are pursuing their dreams, and to know that Scotiabank recognizes that struggle and wants to make a difference in the lives of our students is a tremendous gift to us,” she said.
