Ignite the Electric City Summit Sparks Disruptive Conversations

Published

Peterborough, ON (June 26, 2024) – Fleming College continues to push forward the challenging, inspiring and disruptive conversations focusing on our region’s health care, sparked by the Ignite the Electric City: Health City, Healthy People summit.

The second annual Ignite the Electric City summit was a day-long event hosted at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus on May 9. Bringing together innovative thinkers, community leaders and health care professionals and advocates, the summit tackled some of the biggest issues the Peterborough region is facing.

We are excited to share a new highlight video featuring key discussions from the summit.

This video offers a vibrant and insightful reflection of the summit’s themes, showcasing dynamic exchanges aimed at fostering healthier communities.

Listen as community leaders talk about the growing gap in equality within our region and how innovation, educational approaches, community engagement and strategic partnerships can address the evolving needs of the health care sector.

Ignite the Electric City: Health City, Healthy People was attended by more than 100 people. Keynote speakers included Dr. Danielle Martin, Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine and Dr. Lynn Mikula, President and CEO, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

As Fleming College continues to push the agenda of Ignite the Electric City forward, its School of Health and Community Services continues to research and evolve programming geared toward the health care sector and in-demand jobs. The first new program in this area, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography, has already been approved by Fleming’s Board of Governors.
