Grade 7 & 8 students take part in ‘Women in Trades’ Days

Peterborough ON – (May 27, 2014) – Close to 100 female students from local school boards will try be trying out trades this week at a special event hosted by Fleming College’s School of Skilled Trades and Technology.

 

The ‘Women in Trades’ Days for students in Grades 7 and 8 will take place Tuesday, May 27 to Thursday, May 29 at Fleming’s McRae Campus. The students will participate in two workshops, one in carpentry and the other in plumbing, and will work on projects using various tools and techniques.

The Women in Trades Days is an opportunity for young women to discover the trades and learn more about the possible career opportunities within the field. Students will be attending from the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, and the Trillium Lakelands District School Board.

Thirty students will be at Fleming from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day, in the Carpentry Lab at McRae Campus on Bonaccord Street in Peterborough.
