Global launch of Mobile Monday at Fleming College
MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE MOBILE INSTITUTE:
On Monday, March 23, Peterborough will be joining more than 140 Mobile Monday cities world-wide to explore and showcase mobile innovations in the local economy. Peterborough’s inaugural event will be held at Fleming College in the Steele Centre Pub from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.
There will be a presentation “PTBO Going Mobile – Think Global, Act Local” which will explore how to engage and empower Greater Peterborough Area innovators to join the global mobile economy. Topics discussed will be mobile messaging, mobile web and apps, mobile marketing, wearable computing and the Internet of Things.
The event will also welcome special guests, including an opening address by Dan Taylor, President and CEO, Peterborough Economic Development, and a live video chat with Lars Cosh-Ishii who is the Curator of Mobile Monday Tokyo, MobileMonday.net and Wireless Watch Japan.
“We are excited to host the premier of Mobile Monday Peterborough,” says Rob Williams, recently re-elected President of the Fleming College Student Administrative Council (Fleming SAC). “The mobile economy presents many business and career opportunities for students, along with local community businesses, and we want to foster a culture of mobile innovation at Fleming.”
Organizer Michael O’Farrell sees Mobile Monday Peterborough as one of a series of initiatives to brand Peterborough as a tech-friendly community. “Peterborough is ripe with digital media innovators and has the potential to be a hot bed of technology-based companies. This event will start the conversation that can help grow a mobile economy in the region.”
Mobile Monday Peterborough will be co-hosting an ongoing series of events in the Greater Peterborough Area starting with its launch event at the Fleming Sutherland Campus Steele Centre Pub on Monday, March 23, 2015, followed by its first downtown Peterborough networking event at (location to be announced – stay tuned) on Monday, March 30, 2015.
