GIS programs to host open house at Frost Campus
City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (June 22, 2015) – Students in Fleming College’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programs will host a community showcase to display their applied projects on Friday, June 26.
The students – in both the GIS – Applications Specialist and GIS – Cartographic Specialist programs – have worked collaboratively in groups with business, government and non-profit partners to complete the projects. These cover a wide range of mapping and data products from around southern Ontario.
There are 20 projects this year, including:
– Land use impacts on water quality and algal community in the Bay of Quinte
– Headwater mapping of the Rouge River Watershed
– Ontario Future Crop Yield Mapper – an online tool for mapping the impacts of climate change on crop yields
– Trans Canada Trail Interactive Operational Map (southern Ontario)
– Wilfrid Laurier University Campus Crime Mapping
All are welcome to attend the open house, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Frost Campus, 200 Albert St. S., Lindsay. Parking is free. For more information, contact GIS faculty member Lawrie Keillor-Faulkner at 705-324-9144 ext. 3237.
