Frost Campus to open Arboretum with Tree Canada

Lindsay ON – (October 23, 2018) – Fleming College will host the grand opening of its Arboretum, in collaboration with Tree Canada, at Frost Campus on Friday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the media and public are invited to attend this free tree tour and opportunity to plant Ontario native trees.

The Fleming College Arboretum is a living lab stewarding several species of trees which are rare, at risk and native to Ontario. It is located on the Frost Campus School of the Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences through a series of trails connected to the Trans Canada Trail, running south along the campus property. The Arboretum provides rich learning opportunities for students while growing an environmental and educational legacy for the future.

Schedule:

10:00 a.m. – Opening Remarks, The Fleming College Arboretum – A Living Laboratory and Legacy for Frost Campus by Tree Canada and Fleming College School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences.

10:30 a.m. – Tour of Arboretum

Faculty from the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences will discuss the species planted in the Arboretum, with a focus on Ontario tree species at risk, and improving biodiversity.

11:00 a.m. – Fall tree planting demo

Learn how to plant the right tree in the right place with Fleming College and Tree Canada forestry experts.

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Ontario tree planting in marked areas through the Arboretum trail.

Come join us at Frost Campus (200 Albert Street S. Lindsay, in the log building north from the Heavy Equipment building) for a tree tour and opportunity to plant Ontario native trees.
