Fleming’s Skilled Trades Students Take Centre Stage at Provincial Competition

Published

Peterborough, ON (May 28, 2024) – Fleming College’s Skilled Trades students took home some serious hardware during the annual Skills Ontario competition May 6 to May 8 in Toronto.

Skills Ontario pits some of the province’s best and brightest trades and technology students against each other over two days of competition. This event is also a chance for students to challenge themselves and put their skills to the test in a high-pressure environment as their classmates, families and future employers cheer them on.

Seventeen Fleming students made the trip to the Toronto Convention Centre, competing in multiple skilled trades categories encompassing everything from Aesthetics to Plumbing.

Fleming students made it to the podium in three categories:

• Carpentry student Dylan Waddle brought home the gold medal in the Individual Carpentry competition.
• Liam Sands captured a gold medal in the Arborist category.
• Welding student Joseph Brownson nabbed a bronze medal in the Welding category.

Fleming’s students weren’t the only ones to receive recognition for their hard work and creativity at Skills Ontario. Fleming’s high traffic booth received a third-place nod for its creativity, interactive displays, its focus on trades and technology and the educational value it provided to the many prospective students who stopped by to see what Fleming College has to offer.

Fleming College is proud of all that its students, faculty and staff accomplished at Skills Ontario and extends its congratulations to the entire team.
