Fleming suspends in-person classes at Sutherland Campus for 14 days
Peterborough ON – (February 28, 2021) – Peterborough Public Health (PPH) declared a COVID-19 outbreak on Saturday at the privately owned Severn Court complex on Brealey Drive. Several cases have been confirmed, including a positive screening for a variant of concern. PPH is leading the investigation into this outbreak and will contact anyone who is required to quarantine or isolate.
Due to the proximity to Sutherland Campus, Fleming has taken proactive steps in collaboration with PPH to ensure community safety.
Effective Monday, March 1, all in-person classes delivered at the Sutherland Campus are being suspended for 14 days. Placements for all students attending programs delivered from the Sutherland campus in Peterborough are also suspended for 14 days.
Operations at Frost and Haliburton Campuses will continue as planned, as will all online teaching.
Fleming is committed to supporting our students, staff and the larger community through this public health response. Further actions will be announced as more information becomes available.
It is critical that anyone who attended Severn Court between February 20 and February 27, 2021 and has developed a new or worsening COVID-related symptom (even if it is mild) that is not related to other causes or conditions, advise the College by using our COVID-19 Reporting Form. This tool enables effective tracking and safety protocols that support our Fleming communities.
The resources and supports available to Fleming students include:
- A COVID-19 Support Line has been set up for Fleming students from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for any COVID-related inquiries: 866-341-3485
- Contact us by email: covid19@flemingcollege.ca
- If you are in crisis and need to talk to someone right away, please use one of the 24/7 emergency counselling services available through the Personal Wellness Supports webpage
This remains a fast-developing situation, and students and staff are reminded to follow all safety protocols and not let their guards down as we continue the fight against this pandemic.
