Fleming Students for Social Justice bring the world to Peterborough

Fleming students invite the public to join them on Thursday, November 15 for their Second Annual Fair Trade Sale with Ten Thousand Villages at the Sutherland Campus.This sale of unique, handcrafted gifts, including musical instruments, pottery, home décor, jewelry, toys and textiles, doesn’t come to Peterborough often. Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit organization started by the Mennonite Central Committee in order to support artisans in developing countries and is the oldest and largest fair trade retailer in North America. All proceeds from the sale are returned to Ten Thousand Villages and help to improve the quality of life for people in Latin America, Africa and Asia.The event also features a lunchtime presentation by guest Tim LaRose, founder of Help The World Help The World Foundation. Part of a monthly series of discussions in a café setting, the Global Café welcomes Tim to talk about this unique organization that aims to break down educational and technological barriers to the Internet for children in developing countries. Come get inspired and involved. Students of the Biotechnology Technologist – Forensics program will also be selling espresso, cappuccino and biscotti to raise funds for an upcoming trip – all fair trade.
