Fleming College to retire jersey of men’s basketball alumnus Jovain Wilson
Peterborough, ON October 11, 2016 – Fleming College (Sutherland Campus) will retire the No. 13 jersey worn by Jovain Wilson during his time with Fleming College at the men’s basketball team’s first home exhibition game against Sherbrooke Volontaires.
Wilson led the men’s basketball program from 2007 to 2010 with a career total 1,702 points. During this time he was named OCAA Rookie of the year, two time OCAA All Canadian, two time OCAA Player of the Year, and CCAA Player of the Year.
Following his successful student career, Wilson joined the Fleming College basketball coaching staff in a demonstration of giving back to the college that gave so much to him. “I wasn’t highly recruited out of high school and didn’t really expect to play college ball. But I worked hard and listened to the people around me, and I was able to become successful,” said Wilson.
Fleming will host both the men’s and women’s basketball alumni games at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre on October 15, 2016 beginning at 10:30 a.m. This year’s men’s basketball team will host the season opener exhibition game at 7 p.m., with the ceremonial jersey retirement taking place during half time. The day wraps with a Social at the Fleming College Steele Centre between 9 and 11 p.m. Admission is free, and both events are open to the public.
