Fleming College to host 2017 summer basketball camps, clinics, leagues
The Fleming Knights men’s varsity basketball program will be host to summer basketball programming for both youth and adults for a second year at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.
Following the success of both the men’s and high school-age boys’ leagues, as well as the kids’ clinics last year, Fleming College has decided to offer the programs developed and instructed by varsity players and coaching staff again for 2017.
The Fleming Knights have also partnered with the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre to provide new soccer and basketball specialty sport camps for kids, which focus on developing physical literacy, confidence, competence, and sportsmanship. Also for kids this year is the Knights basketball clinic, which develops basketball skills and athletic training through drills, activities, and games.
On offer again for 2017 are league play for men and high school boys. The men’s league consists of up to six teams with 10 players per team, playing in a high school game format of two 25-minute halves for 10 total games including playoffs. The boys’ league is geared to boys in grades 9 through 12 who will experience 45 to 60 minutes of basketball specific skill development and athletic training followed by 30-45 minutes of league play.
“Through community outreach, the Fleming Knights summer programs offer the highest quality programming for all ages and abilities, and provide learning opportunities for not only our participants but also for our varsity players, students and volunteers,” said Josh Williams, basketball coach for Fleming Knights.
Both the basketball clinic and leagues are held at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre at 775 Brealey Dr. in Peterborough, with the basketball clinic for boys and girls aged 8 to 13 taking place July 15-16, the high school boys’ league beginning June 29, and the men’s league beginning June 20.
