Fleming College Pilots a Sustainability Assessment Tool for Businesses

Published

Peterborough, ON (January 17, 2022) – Fleming College is encouraging small and medium-sized companies to participate in the pilot release of a sustainability self-assessment tool for businesses. The free tool, consisting of 20 multiple choice questions, enables a business to calculate a sustainability score related to its environmental, employee, and community-related practices. Companies can use the score to assess how they are contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The assessment tool was developed by Bob Willard, an award-winning expert on corporate sustainability, and is now open to participants on the Fleming College Sustainability website. Fleming College has launched the self-assessment tool pilot project thanks to funding from the Employment and Social Development Canada SDG program.

The United Nations SDG are part of a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Small and medium-sized companies are the engine of Canada’s economy and as such, their contributions to sustainability are vital to Canada accomplishing its SDG commitments.

The pilot will run until February 28, 2022.
