Fleming College Honours National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Peterborough, ON (September 29, 2025) – On September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, staff and students at Fleming College acknowledge the truths of residential schools and honour the Survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home. This day calls us to reflect on the resilience of Indigenous communities and to recognize our collective and institutional responsibility in advancing reconciliation.

Fleming College is honouring the day with a series of events focused on listening, learning, and raising awareness.Through these events, the college aims to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous histories and cultures, while promoting healing and unity between all communities.

A schedule of events is as follows:

  • Sutherland Campus will be hosting a Smudging at 9:30 a.m. in the new Sutherland Learning Lodge
  • Haliburton Campus is hosting an art exhibit showcasing Indigenous Artists and their perspectives on Truth and Reconciliation
  • Haliburton Campus will be hosting Haliburton community member Larry O’Connor today at 12 p.m. in the Great Hall. Larry will share his personal journey as an Indigenous person and speak about the legacy of colonialism and the Residential School system
  • Frost Campus will be screening The Secret Path and button-making at 7 p.m. in the Residence Program Office, followed by a debrief and Smudging hosted in the new Frost Learning Lodge

Staff, students, and community members are welcome to attend any of these events.
