Environmental Leadership C-Links Finalists Compete for $1,000 Grant
Official Launch of C-Links Centre in the City of Kawartha Lakes
Community academic partnership is the foundation of over 95 Community-Links (C-Links) projects that students in the Environmental Leadership course presented this semester to advocate for an organization and issue. The top five Links project finalists will showcase their assignment to a panel of judges at the official launch of the C-Links Centre in the City of Kawartha Lakes on Thursday, December 8 at the Frost Campus. The finalists are competing for a $1,000 grant that will go to their partner organization.
Links project is a vital component of the Environmental Leadership course that offers a community based learning approach to identify and apply a personal understanding of leadership, sustainability and community in the context of natural resource sciences.
Students in the course work in teams to select a local City of Kawartha Lakes business, not-for-profit and charity organization or a municipal government group to research issues of importance to the community.
The following five team presentations advance to the finals:
- Technology Alliance Group – Social benefits
- Towards Balance Support Network – Timebank (Organizations time-banking)
- Towards Balance Network – Time Bank Awareness
- Lilac Gardens of Lindsay – Sustainable Weed Control
- Fenelon Falls Museum – Heritage Trees
The top five C-Links finalist were selected by Fleming’s C-Links Project Coordinator Shantal Ingram and School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences faculty members Barb Elliot and Sara Kelly. Selection criteria included knowledge and understanding of their topic, research skills, and quality of their presentation through public speaking, poster board presentation and grant application.

Fleming’s focus is the environment, so you won’t spend much time in a lecture hall. It’s active, outdoor, hands-on learning, with field camps and projects that will challenge you to put your new skills into practice. Most programs offer work placements, and some offer paid co-ops, internships, or international exchanges. The small class sizes are taught by renowned faculty who are committed to your success.
