Cobourg campus offers two new programs

Published

Fleming College’s Cobourg Campus is excited to offer two new programs for Fall 2012: Green Business Management, and Solar Photovoltaic System Planning & Installation.

The Green Business Management post-graduate certificate is for individuals who are passionate about creating a more responsible workplace. Courses include Workplace Sustainability, Opportunities in Green Economy, and Implementing Change, and the program combines on-site and online learning. Green Business Management is geared towards college and university graduates from business, management or environmental programs.

Fleming’s Solar Photovoltaic System Planning & Installation certificate is a comprehensive program that gives students the skills they need for an entry-level position in a growing industry. Graduates from this program have excellent job prospects, as this industry is experiencing a significant labour shortage (almost half of all companies do not have enough installers to fill their current orders). The curriculum is designed to meet the criteria for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners; and Fall Arrest, WHMIS, and Hoisting & Rigging certifications are also completed during this program.

In addition to the two new programs Fleming’s Cobourg Campus is offering, there is a variety of other programs available. For those interested in working with the public, the Cobourg Campus offers the Food Service Worker certificate and the Public Safety & 9-1-1 Communications program. Students in the Food Service Worker program will learn the workings of a kitchen in a health care setting and specialized food preparation techniques, and upon program completion, can seek employment in hospitals, long-term care facilities, private clinics, and retirement residences. Those in the Public Safety & 9-1-1 Communications program will become proficient in call taking, dispatching, 9-1-1 and computer aided dispatch, and will be prepared for a career in police, fire or ambulance dispatch.

Students can also enrol in creative courses. Photographic Studies is a series of courses that gives students hands-on practice to test out the theory and principles of photography. And Fleming’s Social Media Marketing Specialization covers everything from how to build a website, to twitter and Facebook, to measuring social media effectiveness.
