Rose Baker (1906 to 2003), was a Peterborough area artist until the age of 95, active with the East Central Art Association and the Kawartha Artists Gallery during her career. She also studied at the Haliburton School of Fine Art through its summer program.
Rose was the kind of artist who loved to inspire young artists as she created her own art and taught others along the way. Her approach could be summed up in the following: be prepared to take risks, share your joy, and never, ever, be afraid to try something new.
This award is provided to a student at the Haliburton campus who is taking a summer course related to landscape painting and, demonstrates financial need.
