Scholarships and Bursaries
Butch, Butchie, Crusty – these were the most common nicknames he was known by. Regardless of the name, he was well-liked by his peers both at Fleming College and within the sporting community of Peterborough. Butch worked at Fleming College for 23 years and continued to work diligently until the age of 77, as long as his health allowed him. He gave much to this College in many different areas but always ensured that students’ needs were met. Hard work and dedication were qualities that he strongly believed in. He played a large role each year in Convocation ceremonies and loved being part of such a celebratory time for our students and their families. Butch was a family man and enjoyed working in the same office as his daughter Paula. His face always lit up when speaking about his two granddaughters, Brittany and Cassidy. He was a man of few words, often coming across as a “tough guy”, but he had a heart of gold and a great sense of humour. Butch was also well-known within the Peterborough Petes and Lakers Lacrosse organizations, serving as a long-time sports trainer. He enjoyed playing slow-pitch and watching his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and Chicago Blackhawks. Butch was a very special man and he is greatly missed by all of us at Fleming since his passing in June 2015. We hope his legacy will live on at Fleming College with this memorial bursary, continuing to help our students, as he loved to do.
