Woodworking - Post-and-Rung Counter Stool

Course Code: ARTS2963

Make a counter stool from a tree in this hands-on course introducing the fundamentals of greenwood post-and-rung chairmaking-without the more advanced chair back. Starting with sections of red oak logs, learn to split and shave the necessary components using traditional hand tools. You will assemble your stool using wet/dry joinery, where dry rungs expand inside wetter posts to create strong, long-lasting joints. The course concludes with a beeswax finish and a handwoven shaker tape seat. Using tools such as a froe, drawknife, spokeshave, and shavehorse, you will leave with a beautiful, functional piece of furniture and a solid understanding of this traditional woodworking practice.
