Introduction to Rope Splicing

Learn how to splice various types of rope used in climbing and rigging, lifting and other applications in this introductory rope splicing course. The course will introduce you to cordage terminology, materials / tools, and physical properties of rope. Through hands-on instruction you will learn to splice 12-strand hollow braid and class 1 Double Braid ropes to create a fixed eye, as well as discover other commonly used applications in the arboriculture industry. Using approved tools and techniques, we will create splices according to manufacturer specifications. You will also have the opportunity to test the durability and strength of your splices using a tensile test machine to understand functionality and limits of use. As part of the course, you will receive your own splicing kit. Equipment for this course was generously donated by Atlantic Braids Ltd and Universal Field Supplies.
