Dechlorination

This course is designed for water and wastewater operators who are required to dechlorinate water in their facility. The need for dechlorination in the water/wastewater sectors is discussed. The focus of this course is on using sulfur dioxide and sodium sulfite salts to remove chlorine from water. The course explains the chemical reactions that underlie dechlorination as well as the hazards and safety concerns that come with working with sulfur dioxide and sulfite salts. Dechlorination equipment, operation, troubleshooting common issues and shutdown procedures for sulfonators will also be discussed.
