Published

Peterborough ON – March 9, 2010 – Students in Fleming’s Sporting Goods Business program now have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and earn money while they complete their studies.  A 16-week, fully paid, cooperative placement has been added between the first and second year of the program to give students a funded employment experience to better prepare them for jobs after graduation. The Sporting Goods Business program at Fleming is unique in Ontario. The two-year business program prepares students for careers in the sporting goods industry by combining business and people skills with a passion for sports.  “The placement is going to allow students of the Sporting Goods Business program to gain experience in a real-life business setting in their chosen field of study. We feel that this co-op placement will expand and enhance the learning of our students,” said Charlie McGee, coordinator of the Sporting Goods Business Program. “They will be even better prepared to make a valuable contribution to their workplace immediately upon graduation.”  Previous students have done placement assignments with employers such as New Era Caps, Bauer Hockey and Sports Distributors of Canada. “Placements are a huge part of the learning experience. Fleming College changed my life and got me to the places I am because of the real-world, applied learning opportunity provided by the program,” said Sales, Marketing & Promotion Coordinator of Rawlings Group Canada Jason Shipley, a graduate of the Sporting Goods Business program. Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton.
