Governors Hear Report on SCWI Program

Peterborough ON – June 1, 2010 – Fleming College’s Board of Governors will hear updates, projection numbers and an overview on Fleming’s role in the School College Work Initiative (SCWI) on Wednesday.Trudy Heffernan, with Fleming College’s Centre for Learning and Teaching, will present information on the SCWI program on June 2, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Sutherland Brealey Campus in Room 272.The program is offered throughout Fleming College’s campuses and is part of the Ministry of Education’s Student Success and Learning to 18 Strategy and is in collaboration with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities. This initiative provides funding to support many partnership activities and encourages the development of pathway programs between secondary schools and colleges.Programs within the SCWI include Specialist High Skills Majors, Dual Credits and annual partnership activities including teacher forums and articulation agreements. Fleming College had 750 regional students participate in the School College Work Initiative in 2009/2010 and projects 1,400 students for 2010/2011.Brenda Heeringa with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and Sonja Vandermeer with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, will be assisting in the presentation.
