Fleming students raise money for Five Counties Children’s Centre

Published

Peterborough ON – (March 22, 2022) – With the help of the community, the Fleming Friends Helping Five Counties Kids fundraiser is off to a great start. This event is led by Fleming College’s Community Integration Through Cooperative Education (CICE) program.

CICE students are completing individual challenges and having fun while raising funds to support the Five Counties Children’s Centre’s campaign, Building Abilities for Life, which aims to get more children into speech and language treatment programs.

The need for speech-language and communication therapies at the Centre grows every year. Due to the increasing need of this type of therapy, some children must wait, which results in them falling further behind. Support of this campaign will help ensure children receive the treatment and support needed that will ultimately impact the rest of their lives.

“This student-driven initiative is a wonderful example of how Fleming College is dedicated to fostering a positive impact within our community,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “This campaign highlights our commitment to the city that so many of our students call home during their studies at Fleming.”

CICE students are just getting started but to date have raised almost $4,000 of their $7,000 goal for Five Counties Children’s Centre.

Students are getting creative with their personal challenges. Student Tessa Scates is challenging herself to raise $500.

“If I reach my goal, I will walk from Fleming to Five Counties Children’s Centre,” she said.

Student Spencer Davis has set a goal to raise $100.

“If I reach that goal, I will eat a handful of Candy Corn for $100,” Davis said. “Candy Corn is one of the most disgusting candies, and if I raise $200, I’ll eat two handfuls.”

You can check out the Facebook group, Fleming Friends Helping Five Counties Kids, to see what these creative students will be up to this month.

Students want to thank those who have already donated, and hope people will continue to spread the word about their campaign. To donate, please visit the personalized donation page available here.
