Fleming ECE students welcome families to 2018 Interactive Learning with Children and Families program

Published

Peterborough ON – (October 1, 2018) Early Childhood Education (ECE) students from Fleming College are welcoming families to the 2018 Interactive Learning with Children and Families program.

The program is intended for families with children eight months to six years old along with their parents/caregivers. Each week the children will play in a creatively designed space that connects with nature, is play-based, child-centred and built on children’s curiosity. While children are engaged in play-based learning, families will enjoy an interactive parenting experience.

The ECE students, in their third semester, are responsible for all aspects of the program and are supervised by two ECE faculty members. Students will observe, plan experiences and document each child’s weekly learning. All learning will support the Ministry of Education’s pedagogy for the early years, “How Does Learning Happen?” Parents will be provided with a portfolio to share in each child’s learning journey via StoryPark.com. Students will also deliver weekly parent education on topics of interest surrounding early childhood education.

The program runs Tuesday or Wednesday mornings between October 2 and December 5, 2018. Families attend one morning a week from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The program is free, healthy snacks for children and coffee or tea for parents will be provided, and will take place at George Street United Church/Emmanuel United Church, 534 George St. N. in Peterborough.
