Enrolment up at Haliburton Campus

Published

First year enrolment at Fleming College’s Haliburton Campus has risen nine per cent over last year contributing to an overall increase in the number of students college-wide. Currently, more than 80 students from across Canada and around the world are taking certificate and diploma programs at the campus. Programs such as Blacksmithing had a waiting list while the new Visual and Creative Arts Diploma (VCAD) program has increased its enrolment 100 per cent over last year. The VCAD program allows students, upon completing their diploma, to enter directly into the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. “Interest in the programs at the Haliburton Campus has been incredible, especially for our art programs,” says Sandra Dupret, Principal of the Haliburton Campus. “Our unique delivery and flexible options for the Visual and Creative Arts Diploma (VCAD) program have attracted a number of students who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts. Students who may have traditionally achieved one of our eight specialty certificates can turn that certificate into a diploma. “Taking it one step further, with our expanding list of articulation agreements, such as the outstanding one we have with Emily Carr University of Art and Design, pathways for our students have expanded and a diploma can also turn into a degree. “For an emerging artist who wants to learn and grow, our programs are very attractive” she adds. “As well, we offer programs in a natural and rural setting with very little distraction, making it more of an art retreat. Students will not find this at an urban college.” For more information on these and other programs at the Haliburton Campus, visit www.HaliburtonSchoolofTheArts.ca – 30 -For more information: Laura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
