Develop professional or personal skills through Continuing Education

Fleming College prints new fall calendar for Continuing Education

Peterborough ON – (Sept. 8, 2015) – Register now for Fleming College Continuing Education courses, which include a wide variety of subjects and certificates to develop professional or personal skills. And with many of the courses now offered online, learning has become more convenient.

Registration is already in full swing, and many participants are taking courses to boost their current career or train for a transition. The online format gives participants more control over their time, offering weekly course modules and scheduled assignments without set class times. This gives participants the opportunity to learn when it is convenient for them, as long as they have access to a computer and Wi-Fi.

A large selection of business-related courses and certificates are available in accounting, human resources, leadership development, software training and web-related applications.

Continuing Education also offers well-respected certificates for health professionals. Launched only a few years ago, the Children’s Mental Health certificate has been popular, even among non-health care professionals such as teachers. New this year is the post-graduate Gerontology Certificate, which focuses on the aging population and offers a well-rounded curriculum of seven courses including an applied project.

Online language and writing courses are always in demand. Core courses in both the Creative Writing and Writing for Professionals certificates are geared to fundamental skills, while the large selection of electives offer more specialized writing skills.

In-class courses generally focus on knowledge and skills that are more conducive to in-person learning than online learning. The first of the three-part Level 1 and Level 2 courses for American Sign Language start in September. For those interested in a career in fashion retailing, there are Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Coordination courses. And both the Bartending and Service Excellence courses are favourites for those looking for employment in the hospitality industry.

Health professionals can choose from several relevant courses and workshops. The first course in the Perioperative Nursing Certificate, geared to RNs and RPNs, will start at the end of September. Professional development courses for Personal Support Workers – as well as CPR, First Aid and Mental Health First Aid courses – are also scheduled this semester.
Fleming offers part-time courses and certificates in a variety of other subject areas, including outdoor skills, sustainability, motorcycle training, trades, photography, interior design, law and emergency services, non-profit and volunteer management, and the arts.
