Each week, we are sharing a review of what the Fleming College community is doing to support our students, each other, and our communities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Please share your story on social media and tag #FlemingCollege.

This week, we are pleased to announce that Fleming College’s Student Emergency Fund provided $415,000 in financial aid support to 1,200 domestic and international students. This fund assists with the financial burden caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support student mental health, Fleming Counselling Services hosts online sessions, including online meditation and a “New Beginnings” session to prepare students for Spring semester. Students can also speak with Fleming Personal Wellness Counsellors at 705-749-5530 ext. 1440 on Mondays (1 – 4 p.m.), Wednesdays (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), and Fridays (1 – 4 p.m.). And to de-stress and have some fun, students can participate in Fleming Student Administrative Council’s Facebook events and daily fitness classes.

To support our communities, Fleming College is participating in covAID, a virtual event featuring local leaders (including Fleming College President Maureen Adamson), musicians and celebrities in support of charities providing mental health supports in our community. Tune in on Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. on the PTBO Strong Facebook Page or Cogeco’s Yourtv Peterborough-Lindsay for an evening of entertainment– including Fleming’s #TogetherAtHome music video!

Fleming College is also supporting our communities by offering four free online courses during the COVID-19 outbreak. These courses address current issues and prepare students to pursue full certificate programs in the future.

For Fleming students interested in starting or continuing their education this Spring, select programs have been adapted to online and alternate delivery format and begin May 19. And this week, Fleming shared that the Fleming Safe plan will be used to start Fall term online and transition to face-to-face classes. The Fleming Safe plan will ensure that students can complete their learning outcomes while maintaining the highest possible safety standards.

Fleming College is incredibly proud of our amazing students and alumni using their Fleming education to help others. This includes Practical Nursing student Erin Bourne, who is committed to long-term care amidst the pandemic.

We are so grateful for nurses and nursing students, and recognized their work on International Nurses Day with social media posts and a video message from Fleming College President Maureen Adamson.

This week Fleming College also recognized Ontario Police Week, Mother’s Day, and Sexual Assault Prevention Month on social media.

As we continue to face challenges amidst this global pandemic, we are proud of the support our Fleming community is providing to our students, each other, and our communities. We will get through this together.
