Trent University and Fleming College Create Four New College-to-University Pathways
Collaboration establishes new pathways from three Fleming programs into Trent’s Environmental & Resource Science degree, expanding options for students to study, gain career experience in environmental sector
Peterborough ON – (September 12, 2022) – Fleming College and Trent University have created four new diploma-to-degree pathways, allowing students at Fleming to further their education at Trent.
Fleming students graduating from Fleming’s Fish and Wildlife Technician, Ecosystem Management Technician and Environmental Technician diploma programs will receive seven credits toward a 20-credit degree in Environmental and Resource Science from Trent University.
These three pathways add to the long-standing environmental pathway partnership between Trent and Fleming, which dates back to the early 2000s, and have produced many environmental leaders in the region and across Canada.
“This new agreement will provide students the opportunity to benefit from both hands-on learning and theoretical teaching, preparing students for success in fields that are growing across Canada,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “It also strengthens a long-standing partnership between Trent University and Fleming College and highlights the strong post-secondary educational opportunities in our region.”
“It is fantastic that more students looking at a post-secondary education are able to tap into the unique benefits of studying at both university and college,” said Dr. Stephen Hill, director of the Trent School of the Environment. “In the environmental sector, in particular, having both a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge and the technical skills and abilities to put that knowledge and thinking into action opens up career opportunities for college-to-university transfer graduates.”
Additionally, eligible Fleming students enrolled in the Police Foundations program will receive five credits toward a 20-credit degree through enrolment in the Policing and Community Well-Being program at Trent University Durham Greater Toronto Area.
Earlier this year, the College announced Conservation Biology, Early Childhood Education, Ecosystem Management Technology, Environmental Technology, Fish and Wildlife Technology articulation agreements with Trent.
The two institutions offer comprehensive pathways through many diplomas and degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Education – Indigenous, and Bachelor of Social Work. The new agreements are just the latest addition to meaningful post-secondary opportunities, giving students more options and control regarding their education and making the future transfer process more accessible and streamlined.
