Fleming College welcomes application process for federal government’s $2 billion Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund

Published

Fleming College welcomes the opportunity to apply for funding under the federal government’s Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund in support of innovation and research at colleges and universities across the country. This fund will help drive a much needed renewal in aging infrastructure.

“This fund provides Fleming with the opportunity to significantly enhance and modernize our aging infrastructure and leverage opportunities to implement sustainable technologies through the upgrades,” said Fleming College President Tony Tilly.  “We will apply for funding for projects to enhance both our Sutherland Campus in Peterborough and our Frost Campus in Lindsay. These projects would be transformative for the campuses and will closely align with stated government priorities to build a clean and sustainable economy.”

Fleming has a large portfolio of programs and research capabilities in environmental sciences, green technologies and research at its Frost Campus, including both its School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences and the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment. The college has recently completed a Master Plan for the Frost Campus that identifies much needed enhancements and opportunities to improve both quality of the student learning experience and environmental sustainability.

In Peterborough, many parts of Fleming’s Sutherland Campus have exceeded the term of the normal life-cycle. The college will apply for funding to upgrade facilities to the benefit of all students, with a particular focus on innovation and upgrades within the college’s School of Health & Wellness and School of Business.

In total, Fleming College has a backlog over $30 million of unfunded deferred maintenance projects.

Applications will be submitted by May 9, 2016.
