The Fleming Knights Celebrate a Successful Fall Season

Published

Peterborough, ON – (November 14, 2022)
– Several athletes from Fleming’s multiple varsity teams have experienced tremendous success on the field and on the course.

The Fleming Knights Women’s Rugby Sevens team capped off an impressive 2022 season with a silver medal at the OCAA Championship. Having received an automatic bye to the semis for finishing 2nd overall during the regular season, the Knights attended the championship hosted by Loyalist College on Oct. 29. The team handily won their match against Algonquin College 15-7, losing to Durham in the championship game.

Several team members were recognized for their efforts on a provincial level.

Rachael King and Montana Rank were named OCAA Championship All-Stars and King, Madison Falls and Abby Todd were named OCAA League All-Stars.

Fleming Coach Donnie Maillet, who helped lead the Knights to their second-place finish, was named OCAA Coach of the year.

The Knights now have their sights set on New York City. The team is travelling to the Big Apple for the largest single-day rugby sevens tournament in the United States. That tournament takes place November 25 – 27.

Competing at the OCAA Championship Oct. 29 and 30 against runners from 14 Ontario post-secondary campuses, the Fleming Knights Cross Country team saw two of its runners qualify to the OCAA All-Ontario Second Team. Frances Emery and Ainsley Taggett competed at the Cross Country National Championship in Medicine Hat, Alberta on Nov. 12.

Sports are a vital component of life outside the classroom at Fleming College. The Fleming Knights represent nine varsity and four extramural teams at the Frost and Sutherland campuses, covering cross country, basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby, curling and loggersports. Fleming also hosts intramural sports and drop-in activities throughout the fall and winter semesters.
