Pharmacy Technician program receives national accreditation

Published

Peterborough ON – (January 22, 2015) – Fleming College’s Pharmacy Technician program was last month awarded the status of full accreditation by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).

The term of the accreditation is five years, from Jan. 1, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2019.

Application for national accreditation requires significant time and resources on the part of the program applicant. The CCAPP stated that it was “impressed” with Fleming’s application.

“You and your Program faculty provided good evidence in the review process that compliance with core accreditation standards are in place and in some cases exceed the standard.”

To maintain full accreditation status, Fleming’s Pharmacy Technician program is required to submit an annual progress report by April 30 of each year.

The Pharmacy Technician program is a two-year diploma program offered at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus. The program offers work placement opportunities in hospitals and community/long-term care settings.

Pharmacy Technicians work as registered licensed healthcare professionals in the province of Ontario. They provide services such as transcribing verbal orders, transferring prescriptions, and signing off on the technical aspects of prescriptions. Pharmacy technicians also support health promotion activities for patients and communities, and work in collaboration with pharmacists to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for the patient.
