One Community, One Forest: Free community workshop hosted by Urban Forestry Technician students

Members of the community are invited to participate in a free workshop on urban forestry and residential tree care at Fleming College’s Frost Campus this Saturday, April 16.

One Community, One Forest is hosted and presented by students in the Urban Forestry Technician program. The event includes four seminars:

  • Nature Walk – A presentation on the landscape and features of Lindsay (tree identification, signs of common insects, and wildlife)
  • History of Kawartha Lakes Forestry – A journey through time to witness how the urban forestry of Lindsay came to be and the direction in which they are heading (ancient forests, early planting, invasive species, future planning)
  • Introduction to Tree Pruning – Learn the basics of tree biology, pruning techniques and equipment, and safety practices (please bring leather gloves and safety goggles/glasses)
  • Seed Propagation – Learn about tree seeds and seedling growth (includes a tour of the Frost Campus greenhouse and hands-on activities)

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the campus, 200 Albert St. S. in Lindsay. Registration will get underway at 9 a.m. with a welcome session at 9:30 a.m. The Nature Walk and History of Kawartha Lakes Forestry seminars will run from 10 a.m. to noon. The Introduction to Tree Pruning and Seed Propagation seminars will run from 1 to 3 p.m.
