Gamiing Nature Centre and Fleming College form new partnership

Published

City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (November 28, 2014) – Gamiing Nature Centre and Fleming College’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences (SENRS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to further develop and strengthen their relationship.

The agreement formalizes certain environmental restoration and rehabilitation activities that will be carried out as part of the MOU, including field-based nature activities, and seeks to engage SENRS students and staff in projects that will contribute to the Gamiing Nature Centre.

“This partnership is extremely beneficial to both organizations,” said Linda Skilton, Dean/Principal of SENRS and the Frost Campus. “SENRS is an internationally recognized educational institution while the Gamiing Nature Centre has brought together expertise and interest in the outdoors from a range of volunteers, the community, and municipal government. The skills and expertise within the Gamiing Nature Centre are a valuable resource for the Fleming College students and faculty.”

Other highlights of the MOU:

– Professional development opportunities for employees at both organizations;
– Field trips to the Centre for Fleming staff and students;
– Student workplace learning, which would include field placements, internships, projects, and paid co-op work terms that involve SENRS programs;
– Guest lectures at Fleming by Gamiing volunteers and staff;
– Gamiing will promote employment opportunities to SENRS students and graduates by working with Fleming’s Career and Employment Resources department.
