Fleming College

Fleming College is launching a new customized training program for individuals who work within the non-profit sector.

Developed in partnership with the United Way of Peterborough & District and recognizing the need in the sector, the Business of Philanthropy in the Non-Profit Sector is a customized program delivered by a panel of non-profit sector and fundraising professionals that will be delivered over five months in five full-day modules (one per month).

The program has been specifically designed to enhance the skillsets of those involved in fundraising activities in non-profit agencies and will provide strategic linkages between relationship management and fundraising success.

Delivered by Dianne Lister, former Vice President of External Relations at Trent University, LL.B.; Fleming College Chief Advancement Officer Shirlanne Pawley-Boyd, CFRE; and Lisa Smith, Director of Community Impact with the United Way of Peterborough and District, the training will give participants a range of philanthropic practices, tools and theories.

After each module, participants will draw upon what they have learned to develop project components for an applied project – a final comprehensive strategic fundraising plan for their host organization. The modules will cover the fundamentals of the sector, core business practices such as project management and risk management, and philanthropic relationships and communication.

Upon successful completion of the classroom training and applied project, participants will receive a Certificate of Recognition. Full participation in The Business of Philanthropy program is also applicable for 35.0 points in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
