Fleming College Hosts 38th Annual Loggersports Competition

Lindsay, ON – (Nov. 4, 2022) – Fleming College is hosting the annual Canadian Intercollegiate Lumberjacking Association (CILA) Loggersports Competition Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Fleming Loggersports site at the Frost Campus in Lindsay, ON.

This year’s competition will pit 135 students from six different schools against each other in a slew of logging-related events, testing each competitor’s strength, determination, and grit.

Challenges include Log Decking, Pulp Throwing, the Chocker Race, and a Pole Climb. Students will face off in the Water Boil, Underhand Chop, Swede Saw and the Crosscut Saw.

Opening Ceremonies take place at 8 a.m., with the competition getting into full swing at 8:30 a.m.

Members of the public and the media are welcome to attend the competition.

Fleming is one of six schools across Canada currently registered as CILA members. The Loggersports competition on Saturday is the second of four competitions CILA members will compete in this year. Teams earn points at each competition. The team with the most points at the end of the season becomes the CILA Champions for the year. 

The day’s schedule is as follows:

Morning Events from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.:

  • Log Decking
  • Pulp Throwing
  • Chocker Race
  • Quarter Split
  • Single Buck
  • Pole Climb
  • Axe Throw
  • Standing Block Chop
  • Chain Saw
  • Super Swede Saw

Competitors Break for lunch between 12 – 1 p.m.

Afternoon Events from 1 – 3 p.m.:

  • Swede Saw
  • Crosscut Saw
  • Underhand Chop
  • Water Boil

Spare Competition takes place from 3 – 3:30 p.m.

The Awards Ceremony takes place from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
