First graduates of Fleming College’s Manufacturing Operations Certificate
Cobourg ON – (Sept. 4, 2014) – Fleming College recently celebrated the first graduates of its Manufacturing Operations Certificate (MOC) program.
The 11 students completed the program through the Cobourg Campus. They represent a number of Northumberland County companies including: Structural Panels, Akzo Nobel, Lorenz Conveying, CamTran and Dart Cups.
The MOC was designed in consultation with leading industry partners in response to the changing dynamic of the manufacturing industry in the global marketplace.
“Supporting the manufacturing sector through innovative training programs is essential for a highly skilled workforce. This program provided participants with leading-edge training in LEAN thinking and continuous improvement processes. These skills add a great deal of value to the workplace,” says Deborah Clifford, Cobourg Campus Manager.
Providing relevant, up-to-date and practical training for manufacturing employees, the program promotes a culture of lean processes and continuous improvement, more effective work teams, and enhanced individual responsibility for manufacturing processes.
The program is delivered in intensive periods – either onsite at a specific company or on campus – in a series of interconnecting modules. The curriculum includes performance improvement; waste reduction, downtime analysis; complying with statutory regulations; and contributing to effective teamwork.
The MOC was supported by the Eastern Ontario Development Program through the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation. For more information on the program, visit: www.flemingcollege.ca.
