Carpenters Union Local 397 donates to KTTC

Published

Fleming College’s fundraising campaign for the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC) has received a significant donation of $35,000 from the Carpenters Union Local 397.

The donation will go toward the Building Skills, Shaping Futures campaign for the KTTC at the Sutherland Campus of Fleming College in Peterborough. Funds raised during this campaign are earmarked for infrastructure and capital equipment.

“The Carpenters Union is supporting the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre, seeing the new facility as a great promotion in attracting young people into the trades,” noted Joel Neville, Local Union Coordinator. “The new facility will provide more room and resources not only to our carpenter apprentices but for the apprentices of many other trades using this great new facility. Congratulations to all.”

In recognition of the Carpenters Union Local 397’s gift, the Campus Terrace within the KTTC will be named for the union that represents men and women in the Lakeshore area who work in a variety of skilled trades, including carpentry, drywall and resilient flooring.

The KTTC is currently under construction at the Sutherland Campus in Peterborough. Scheduled to open in fall 2014, it will house Fleming’s trades and technology programs.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of organized labour. This generous donation from the Carpenters Union Local 397 shows both a dedication to the training of future skilled trades professionals and a belief in Fleming College’s objective of providing a state-of-the-art training facility that will have a positive impact on the workforce of Ontario.  Their gift will help Fleming College to continue to develop skilled workers who contribute to a strong economy and strong communities,” said Fleming College President Tony Tilly.
