C-Links presents top student Community Leadership Projects
Student projects made possible with a Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation
Fleming College and C-Links will showcase the top five student projects within the Community Leadership Project at a special event on Thursday, Dec. 6.
The students, who are all in the Common First semester course Leadership in the Environment, will give presentations on their projects. As well, Josh Feltham, Fleming Professor and Coordinator of the Applied and Community Based Research Program, will speak about this exciting new program offered at the college.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Glenn Crombie Theatre (Room 250) at the Frost Campus of Fleming College, 200 Albert St. S. in Lindsay.
The Community Leadership Project explores the links between community and the environment. Working in teams, students chose a non-profit organization in the City of Kawartha Lakes area and an issue or project that agency is involved with. The projects support increased student understanding about the role that community organizations play in relation to caring for and contributing to a healthy environment. At the end of the evening, the best student presentation will be awarded a $750 grant that will go to their chosen organization to help fund the issue or project that the students researched.
C-Links was founded in 2011 and facilitates community-academic relationships through community-based education and community service-learning. Its goal is to engage students, faculty and the community in educational experiences which develop collaboration, innovation and empowerment for all involved.
Through C-Links, local City of Kawartha Lakes businesses, not-for-profits, charities and municipal government will improve their ability to address relevant community-identified concerns through student research and other kinds of projects. C-Links was made possible through the generous funding of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario.
