Accounting students provide free tax clinics

Published

Peterborough, ON –  March 6, 2012 – Fleming College accounting students will be lending a hand once again this tax season, as they will be helping individuals complete tax returns free of charge from March 5 to April 18.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, the main foyer of Fleming College’s Sutherland campus will serve as a volunteer tax preparation clinic, where students will complete and e-file personal tax returns. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., members of the community are welcome to drop by the campus, located at 599 Brealey Dr. in Peterborough, to get help with tax returns.

Fleming College’s Volunteer Tax Preparation Clinic is not only a great opportunity for individuals to get help with personal tax returns, it is also a great opportunity for Fleming College accounting students to gain real, hands-on experience that gives back to the community. Fleming College prides itself on providing students with a unique, applied learning experience, and the Volunteer Tax Preparation Clinic is part of the practical knowledge accounting students gain at Fleming College.

On Monday, March 5, the clinic will take place in the Stella Pulkinghorn Boardroom (room 515), but for the remaining dates the clinic will be held in the main lobby. To qualify for this assistance, an individual must have an annual income of less than $25, 000 or $35, 000 for a family.
