MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE PETERBOROUGH MUSEUM & ARCHIVES:

The Fleming College Museum Management and Curatorship students are excited to announce their upcoming special exhibition, A Common Thread: Our Clothing, Our Stories on display at the Peterborough Museum & Archives (PMA) between April 4 and July 5, 2015.

A Common Thread tells the stories of the people of Peterborough through their clothing, and features clothing artifacts ranging from the early settlement period to the present day. This exhibition offers something for everyone, as items include children’s clothing, men’s suits, flapper dresses, handmade gowns, paper dresses, and even a bikini!

The idea that clothing is not just something we wear is explored throughout the exhibit as visitors will be asked to reflect on their own clothing and what it says about them. Not only will visitors learn about clothing styles worn by past Peterborough residents, but they will see how clothing can hold meaning and memory unique to the person wearing it.

This exhibition was made possible with the completion of the PMA’s Renewal Project, which included a new expanded storage facility and greatly improved work stations. The renewal project along with the 20 year partnership between the PMA and Fleming College have allowed the museum’s unique clothing collection to be put on exhibition for the first time.

Come join us at the Peterborough Museum and Archives between April 4 and July 5, 2015 to learn how the stories of Peterborough have been stitched together and are linked by A Common Thread.
