Peterborough ON (May 27, 2009) — At a press conference held at Fleming College’s Sutherland Campus today, Jeff Leal (MPP Peterborough) announced that the Ontario government will invest $11.7 million in infrastructure projects and campus upgrades at Fleming College. This investment allows Fleming College to move ahead with design and planning of the Kawartha Skilled Trades project and proceed with many campus upgrades and renovation projects."Our government recognizes the importance of promoting Skilled Trades Schools; it’s something we’ve been talking about for some time now. We recognize the importance of training and job creation that these institutes will generate. The funding being announced here today will provide Sir Sandford Fleming College with the necessary financial support they require to move ahead with their Skills Trade Centre. This investment will strengthen our local economy while creating a modern, state-of-the-art facility," said MPP Jeff Leal.Today’s announcement also allows the College to move ahead with many critically needed renovation and upgrading projects at each of our campuses to improve the quality of our facilities and the learning environments for our students."This is wonderful news on two fronts. We can invest immediately in some pressing deferred maintenance priorities – addressing major college needs. In addition, we can continue to move forward toward the Kawartha Skilled Trades Institute. A great day for Fleming, our partners and our communities," said Tony Tilly, President of Fleming College.
