Watch our LEARN – BELONG – BECOME Video Peterborough ON – (October 15, 2009) – Learn. Belong. Become.  With those three words, Fleming College today officially launches its new core promise to students, staff and its entire learning community.“The core promise is our brand. It represents who we are and what we deliver for our students,” said Fleming College president Tony Tilly. “We are a unique collection of smaller learning communities. Students are known by their name. Each campus is distinct, however, the one-to-one relationships, personal learning connections and applied learning are common to all, and that’s a combination that is not often available elsewhere.”More students are choosing the Fleming College experience. Fleming grew 18 percent in first semester enrolment this September, highlighted by strong growth in its skilled trades programs, and its School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences programming in Lindsay. The core promise was developed through an extensive process that analyzed data and perceptions across many audiences and involved academic leadership, administration and support staff input and student feedback.  “As the market becomes more competitive, it is critical to point out our distinct differences,” said Drew Van Parys, Director of Marketing. “The three words capture the essence of our applied learning experience, the sense of community and the potential to excel, which are the hallmarks of a Fleming College experience. We believe that what we have to offer is a compelling alternative to larger institutions in urban centres.”Learn Belong Become has also become the centre of Fleming’s new “Cash for College” incentive. Prospective students receive uniquely designed buttons with a PIN on the back. By going to flemingcollege.ca students can register for the chance to win $12,000 to fund their first year at Fleming. The contest runs through the summer of 2010 and is open to first time Fleming students enrolling in full-time programs in September 2010.A new creative strategy has been implemented on the college’s online and print materials. The three keywords of the core promise capture the following:LEARN: Student learning will be “hands-on” and their education at Fleming will open their minds. They’ll gain learning and life skills by working closely with faculty, staff and Fleming’s communities, inside and outside the classroom. Students will be inspired to excel, encouraged to succeed and supported through challenges.BELONG: Students will become part of Fleming’s learning community and they can create their own. Staff and fellow students will know each other by name. Regardless of a student’s background, experience or age, they are welcomed at Fleming – they’ll feel at home at the college.BECOME: During their time at Fleming, students will change and grow. They’ll gain the knowledge, skills and values to get a job and succeed. Or they’ll have the experience and credentials to pursue pathways to further education at university or college. From here, students can go anywhere. Located in Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business, Computing and Hospitality; Continuing Education and Skilled Trades; Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences; Education, Health and Wellness; Fine Arts; General Arts and Science; and, Law, Justice and Community Services.
