The director of Fleming College’s Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT) was last month appointed Chair of the province’s Water Technologies Acceleration Project (WaterTAP).

Dr. Brent Wootton is director and senior scientist of the CAWT, which is located at the college’s Frost Campus in Lindsay. He previously held the position of Vice-Chair on WaterTAP, an organization mandated to assist in the delivery of Ontario’s Water Sector Strategy.

“I am excited about being part of this important initiative to make Ontario the world leader in water,” said Wootton.

WaterTAP was established under the Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act in 2010. Its purpose is to help grow globally competitive companies and provide high-value jobs in Ontario’s water and wastewater sector. As well, WaterTAP advises government on developing Ontario’s water sector, builds partnerships, and improves information flow within the water and wastewater sector. Additional members of Water TAP include academic and industry representatives. For more information, visit: www.watertapontario.com.

Wootton recently accompanied former Premier Dalton McGuinty on a trade mission to China aimed at attracting new investments and job opportunities for Ontario.

Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Community Development and Health, Continuing Education, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Justice and Business, Skilled Trades and Technology, General Arts and Science, and Visual Arts.
