Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Sale

Published

Fleming College invites employees, students and the general public to their 5th annual Fair Trade Sale with Ten Thousand Villages on November 16th and 17th at the Sutherland campus in Peterborough.

This holiday sale of unique, handcrafted gifts, including fair trade coffee and tea, jewellery, holiday decorations, home décor, toys and textiles, is an opportunity for students, staff and the local community to come out and support fair trade.  The College will also host Community Living as they sell items made by their participants.

Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit Fair Trade Organization (FTO) that sells handicrafts from ‘developing’ countries through its network of stores in Canada and the USA, as well as hundreds of annual Festival sales. This program, of the Mennonite Central Committee, is a relief and development organization working in more than 50 countries around the world.

FTOs are non-governmental organizations designed to benefit artisans, not to maximize profits. They market products from handicraft and agricultural organizations based in low-income countries, providing consumers with products that have been fairly purchased from sustainable sources.

All proceeds from the Fleming sale are returned to Ten Thousand Villages to help improve the quality of life for people in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
